WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Customs and Border Protection agency seized a record amount of marijuana on Wednesday coming to the United States from Mexico, US Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said in a statement on Monday.

“I congratulate US Customs and Border Protection on the seizure on March 11 of over six tons of marijuana, worth an estimated $6.2 million, hidden in a truck attempting to cross from Mexico into the United States,” Johnson said.
Johnson noted that the seizure was the third largest of any controlled drug substance in the history of the US state of Arizona.
“This highlights the good work our men and women do every day to secure our borders,” he added.
In January, US Vice President Joe Biden said during a meeting with high Mexican officials in Washington, DC that strengthening and modernizing the US-Mexico border is among key priorities in the cooperation between the two countries in 2015.
