MOSCOW, January 28 (Sputnik) – The man, who accidentally crashed a drone on the White House grounds on early Monday morning, had been drinking prior to the incident, US media reports.

The man, who has not yet been identified, contacted the Secret Service the next morning and claimed responsibility for the drone.

Drone Threat is Too Much to Handle for Secret Service, Restructure Needed
The man said he had a “feeling” that the drone might have landed on the White House lawn, but still went home to sleep, Time reports.

The event caused a concern in the United States, as it was revealed that smaller drones are capable of penetrating the secured grounds undetected and could pose a potential national security threat. The Secret Service has been under harsh criticism following the incident.

The drone incident is the latest to raise questions about the security of the White House. Last fall, a man with a knife climbed over the White House fence and ran deep into the building before officers stopped him. In 2011, a gunman fired shots that hit the White House while one of Barack Obama’s daughters was in the building.
