Muslims to ‘Take a Stand’ Against Police Brutality at Philadelphia Rally
WASHINGTON, December 27 (Sputnik) — Several hundred protesters from across the United States are expected to attend a rally for police accountability and racial justice in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, rally organizer told Sputnik Friday.

“We have been promoting [the rally] widely in Philadelphia, New Jersey and the general area around. We are expecting people from as far away as New York City,” coordinator for “Muslims Mobilized Against Police Brutality” Donna Auston told Sputnik. “I would say, definitely several hundreds [will attend], but we will see tomorrow."

Muslims Mobilized Against Police Brutality announced its plans to hold a rally on Saturday and march in Philadelphia's Love Park, protesting police violence in reaction to deadly shootings of black Americans by white policemen.

"We are living in a historical moment. This is certainly the most significant conversation and crisis around the issue of race. It's important for us to encourage people engage in dialogue," Auston explained.

She added that all organizers are members of a community that was impacted deeply by police violence, and pointed that as Muslims, they were required to stand up for those who seek justice. The main goal of the Philadelphia movement is to raise awareness about violence against black people and people of color, and call for equal rights and security for everyone, Auston added.

Series of protests against police brutality erupted across the United States, in response to grand jury decisions not to indict the white police officers responsible for several deaths of African-Americans in the recent months.
