A 17-year-old teenager was killed in California after he attacked a policeman with a machete.

MOSCOW, December 21 (Sputnik) — A police officer in California shot and killed a 17-year-old teenager who attacked him with a machete.

As the channel Fox News reports, referring to the police captain Humboldt Adam Jager, a police officer saw a teenager hit a telephone pole, and came up to the young man.  In response, the teenager attacked the law enforcer with a machete.

According to Jaeger, a police officer struck a blow aside with his left hand and shot the offender. The officer locked himself in his patrol car and called for reinforcement. Another policeman, who arrived later, found a teenager lying on the ground naked; soon after the young man died.

The policeman who shot him was hospitalized with injuries to his hands and face.

In recent months, a series of nation-wide demonstrations have been staged across the United States, following the killings of black citizens by police officers where justice was not seen to have been served.

The most recent protests against police impunity were centered in New York City and Washington DC, though rallies were also organized in other US cities.
Thousands in New York March in Protest Against Police Brutality.

The organizers of the event have demanded that police across the United States abandon racial profiling, and that an independent prosecutor be appointed to deal with police misconduct.
