MOSCOW, November 25 (Sputnik) — Police reported Tuesday the detention of 29 persons around the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson, as protests erupted in the city over a grand jury's decision not to indict Darren Wilson, a white off-duty police officer who fatally shot Michael Brown, an unarmed African-American teenager in August.
At least 29 arrests have been made so far around Ferguson and some 150 gunshots were fired by crowds, St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said early Tuesday.
"We have no loss of life, but I am disappointed the evening turned out this way," he told reporters.
"What I've seen tonight is probably much worse than the worst night we ever had in August," Belmar added, noting that the police was "really hoping for peaceful protests."
Protesters have reportedly attacked the police with rocks, bottles and Molotov cocktails, while the police have used tear gas to disperse the angry crowds. Several businesses and police cars have been set on fire.
The US Federal Aviation Administration has issued a flight ban over the city amid reports of gunshots fired into the sky.
