American School Children Mock Michelle Obama's Health Nutrition Program

American schoolchildren are mocking Michelle Obama’s healthy nutrition program by sharing photos of their unappealing school lunches with the #ThanksMichelleObama hashtag. Enraged youths are complaining about the quality of their nutrition.

MOSCOW, November 24 (Sputnik) – Numerous pictures of unappealing school lunches with the hashtag "#ThanksMichelleObama" have been tweeted by enraged teens.

"Michelle Obama has been subjected to a spate of sarcastic tweets from children ruing her campaign for healthier school meals … The first lady began the "Let's Move!" initiative in February 2010 aiming to end childhood obesity within a generation and has championed the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) 2012 guidelines for school lunches in place across 100,000 schools," the Telegraph reported.

The new standards suggested by Michelle Obama included more fruits, vegetables and grains, while sodium, sugar and fat content were substantially limited. Surprisingly, the good intentions of the first lady have provoked criticism among young Americans. Photos, released on Twitter, show unappetizing meals, which schoolchildren refuse to eat.

The Telegraph is citing Mrs. Obama as saying, "We spend more than $10 billion a year on school lunches and should not be spending those hard-earned taxpayer dollars on junk food for our children." However, according to US Twitter users, by looking at the numerous photos shared on the Internet, the question of whether "hard-earned taxpayer" money has been spent most efficiently remains.

A USDA spokesperson has asserted that most meals are not "as bad as the photos suggested," notes the media outlet. It is unlikely that the first lady will reject the program anytime soon.

"I'm going to fight until the bitter end to make sure that every kid in this country continues to have the best nutrition that they can have in our school," Michelle Obama claimed in July 2014 as quoted by the Telegraph.
