Famous director Oliver Stone had met former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, who received temporary asylum in Russia, and discuss new film.

MOSCOW, November 6 (RIA Novosti) — US film director, screenwriter and producer Oliver Stone told RIA Novosti he had met with former NSA contractor Edward Snowden in Russia to discuss a new film about the whistleblower.

"I've met him [Snowden]," the film director said in an interview, when asked about the meeting to discuss Stone's scenario for a new film about Snowden.

Oliver Stone also shared some details with RIA Novosti about his new film.

"We are working on the script. We hope to shoot early next year, we've been working on it for almost a year now… and we're very pleased it's coming along," Stone said.

The script is "based on the Guardian newspaper book and [Snowden's lawyer] Anatoly's [Kucherena] fictional story on Snowden…in Russia, it's called 'Time of the Octopus'… other sources…include all the interviews and newspaper articles," the film director added.

When asked about who will play the main character Stone said it "will be played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt… a very good actor, popular with the young people."

Former NSA contractor Snowden received temporary asylum in Russia in 2013 and was later granted a residence permit until 2017. He is wanted in the United States on several charges including espionage and theft of government property and could face up to 30 years in prison.
