Like most countries around the world, the United Kingdom is struggling to tackle the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic as the number of cases in the country has risen to over 1 million, with the death toll standing at 47,742.

Sputnik is live from London, UK, as the country enters a strict four-week lockdown, in an attempt to tackle the current surge in COVID-19 cases and deaths.

Under the new measures, non-essential businesses and services, such as restaurants and bars, are being forced to close. Citizens have also been urged to limit their journeys and not travel unless it is essential.

The new COVID-19 lockdown rules passed through the British parliament with 516 votes to 38, a majority of 478, on 4 November.
