Earlier this month, Boris Johnson's government introduced a new three-tier system, meaning different levels of anti-pandemic response for areas with varying infection rates. The capital was at first on medium alert (tier one), but was then moved to tier two as the number of cases spiked.

Sputnik is live from London, where an anti-COVID rally has hit the city on Saturday, with protesters marching from Speaker’s Corner in Hyde Park through the centre of the British capital, raising their voice against the restrictive measures related to the COVID pandemic.

Currently, the UK is one of the worst-hit countries in Europe, with over 834,000 infected and over 44,600 dead, which is the fifth-highest death toll in the world.
