On 9 January, the House of Commons voted in favour of Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Brexit deal, paving the way for the country's withdrawal from the European Union at the end of the month.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is taking questions from MPs in the House of Commons.

The United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union is scheduled for 31 January. Brexit will trigger a transition period that ends on 31 December 2020, with Britain leaving the bloc's customs union and single market. The two sides hope to negotiate a new trade arrangement by the end of the year.
