Since March the UK government has been offering up a wild grab-bag of alleged evidence of Russian involvement in the attack on the ex-GRU colonel Sergei Skripal and his daughter in Salisbury, having followed through with the same pattern in a similar Amesbury incident earlier this month. Yet, they seem to have failed to substantiate their claims.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) said in a press release Wednesday that its technical assistance team had collected samples of a substance used in the Amesbury nerve agent attack in early July and would send them to two OPCW designated laboratories for analysis.

A couple from Amesbury had reportedly picked up a small bottle of perfume presumably spiked with the so-called Novichok nerve agent, allegedly used against former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter in neighboring Salisbury. However, scientists have yet to confirm whether the Amesbury substance was from the same batch.

Last week, high-ranking UK counter-terrorism officer Neil Basu said that detectives have been unable to confirm whether the toxic agent the couple in Amesbury was allegedly exposed to was the same as the one ostensibly used against former Russian intelligence agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury in March.

In the latest development regarding the alleged poisoning in Amesbury, police said the couple could have found the container with the nerve agent right after the Skripals' poisoning, but opened it only within the last ten days. However, the container has not been found and it's unclear if the link between the two poisonings will ever be found.
