The silver medalist in the marathon at the 2010 European Athletics Championships, Nailya Yulamanova, will be awarded the gold after the winner was disqualified, the Russian athletics federation said on Wednesday.

Lithuania's Zivile Balciunaite finished first in the marathon last year on August 1 in the streets of Barcelona. Doping tests later revealed forbidden substances in the athlete's blood and the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) ruled to disqualify Balciunaite for two years.

As the Lithuanian athlete was disqualified and results of all other athletes went a position higher the gold will go to Russia's Yulamanova, the silver to Italy's Anna Incerti and the bronze to Ukraine's Tetyana Filonyuk.

Balciunaite's suspension will be in force until September 6, 2012, meaning that she will not be able to compete at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
