    Spanish footballer Sergio Ramos joined FC Real Madrid in 2005, his contract purchased for €27 million. He played for the La Liga team as a centre-back.

    Real Madrid announced on Wednesday that its captain, footballer Sergio Ramos, has decided to leave the club, with a tribute and farewell event scheduled for 17 June.

    "Real Madrid CF announces that tomorrow, Thursday, June 17, at 12:30 pm, there will be an institutional act of tribute and farewell to our captain Sergio Ramos, with the presence of our president Florentino Pérez", the club said in an official statement.

    Ramos is also expected to appear at a press conference afterwards.

    ​The footballer has not commented on the announcement. The reasons for his departure have not been clarified by the club statement.

    Ramos joined the club in 2005, becoming captain after the departure of Iker Casillas in 2015.
