US President-elect Donald Trump has expressed support for Los Angeles' bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, a spokeswoman for the city's mayor announced.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Wednesday, Trump had a phone call with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, in which he discussed the issues of development of the city's infrastructure and investments, Garcetti's spokeswoman Connie Llanos said.

"They had a productive conversation about ways to expand infrastructure investments and opportunities in communities across America," Llanos was quoted as saying by the NBC News broadcaster on Thursday.

Bidding for the 2024 Summer Olympics began in 2015. The games were initially contested between five potential host cities, with Germany's Hamburg withdrawing its bid in November 2015 and Italy's Rome rejecting the initiative in September. Nowadays, Paris, Budapest and Los Angeles are contesting in the race for the 2024 Games, which will end in September 2017.
