    Germany’s women’s football team won an Olympic gold for the first time in Rio.

    RIO DE JANEIRO (Sputnik) – Germany beat Sweden in the final match of women’s tournament on Friday, with a score of 2 to 1.

    Bronze went to Canada on Friday, which beat Brazil’s women's team with a score of 2 to 1.

    Previously, Germany’s team won three bronze medals at the women’s Olympic football tournament – in 2000, 2004 and 2008.

    Germany has also emerged victorious in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, in 2003 and 2007.
