Rio Bronze Medalist From Kyrgyzstan Disqualified for Failing Doping Test

A Rio Olympics weightlifting bronze medalist has been disqualified from the 2016 Olympics and his medal revoked following a positive doping test, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) said in a statement Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The court said its anti-doping division's decision may be appealed either before the CAS ad hoc division in Rio or the CAS in Lausanne after the August 5-21 games are over.

“Izzat Artykov (Kyrgyzstan, weightlifting 69kg, ranked 3rd), positive test with strychnine; final award; the athlete is disqualified from the men’s 69 kg weightlifting competition, his medal is forfeited and he is excluded from the Olympic Games Rio 2016,” CAS said.
