IOC Withdraws Russian Runner Chermoshanskaya's Beijing Gold Medal

The International Olympic Committee has stripped Russian runner Yulia Chermoshanskaya of her 2008 Olympic Games gold medal allegedly finding prohibited substances in her doping samples.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The International Olympic Committee (IOC) had withdrawn Russian runner Yulia Chermoshanskaya's Olympic Games Beijing 2008 gold medal for Women’s 4x100m relay following reanalysis of her doping samples, IOC said in a statement Wednesday.

"Reanalysis of Chermoshanskaya’s samples from Beijing 2008 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substances stanozolol and dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol). The Athlete, Yulia Chermoshanskaya has the medal, the medallist pin and the diplomas obtained in… the Women’s 4x100m relay withdrawn and is ordered to return the same," the statement read.

On May 19, the IOC said its Executive Board had requested the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to retest doping samples of athletes who had taken part in the Beijing, London and Sochi Olympic Games.
