Russia’s Daria Shmeleva and Anastasiia Voinova took silver in women’s track cycling team sprint at the Rio Olympics.

RIO DE JANEIRO (Sputnik) — Shmeleva and Voinova finished in 32.40 seconds on Friday. China took gold, with Tianshi Zhong and Jinhie Gong having set a new world record in round 1 (heat 4).

The previous world record was set by Chinese athletes in 2015 (32.034). Zhong and Gong finished in 31.92 seconds.

The 2016 Summer Olympic Games are being held in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro from August 5 until August 21. Brazil is the first South American country to host the competition.

Russia currently has four gold medals at the Rio Olympics.
