Fiji’s men’s rugby team won gold at the Rio Games, bringing the country its first Olympic medal.

RIO DE JANEIRO (Sputnik) – Osea Kolinisau and his rugby sevens teammates won against the British team with a score of 43:7 on Thursday.

Bronze went to South Africa’s team, which won against Japan with a score of 54:14.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) made the decision to add the rugby sevens format to the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2009.

The Summer Olympic Games are being held in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro from August 5 until August 21. Brazil is the first South American country to host the competition.
