US' Virginia Thrasher Wins First Rio Olympic Gold Medal in Women's 10m Air Rifle

Virginia Thrasher, a 19-year-old rifle shooter from the United States, has won the first gold medal of the Rio Olympic Games in the women's 10m air rifle.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Du Li and Yi Siling from China claimed silver and bronze medals.

Thrasher won the 10m air rifle competition with a score of 208.0 points. China's Du Li scored 207.0 points. Third place was taken by London Olympics champion Yi Siling from China.

Russia's Daria Vdovina placed fifth, with 143.5 points

The Summer Olympic Games are being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from August 5 until August 21. Brazil is the first South American country to host the competition.
