The International Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) said Wednesday it has dismissed an appeal by the Russian Weightlifting Federation (RWF) against its suspension by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The IWF decided last Friday to ban the Russian national team from participating in the upcoming Summer Olympics in Brazil over allegations of numerous doping violations that "have seriously damaged the integrity of weightlifting."

"A hearing was held this morning and the Panel in charge of it decided to dismiss the application, considering that the IWF Rules allowing the IWF to sanction a national federation which “by reason of conduct connected with or associated with doping or anti-doping rule violations, brings the sport of weightlifting into disrepute” was valid and was properly applied in the circumstances," CAS said in a statement.
