Lawsuits relating to Russian athletes who have been banned from competing at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games are being prepared but it is first necessary to wait for the decision of the international federations, a lawyer for the All-Russia Athletics Federation (ARAF), Artyom Patsev, said Monday.

KAZAN (Sputnik) — On Sunday, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced its decision to ban all Russian athletes with a record of doping violations from participating in 2016 Rio Olympic Games, while leaving it to the respective international federations to decide whether individual Russian athletes should be allowed to compete at the Games.

"I can say that lawsuits are being prepared, but we must await the decision of the federations," Patsev told R-Sport.

He was unable to disclose the names of the athletes in question.

Following Sunday’s decision to allow "clean" Russian athletes to compete in the upcoming Games, IOC President Thomas Bach said no officials from the Russian Sports Ministry would be accredited for the August 5-21 competition.
