MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Lineup and functions of an independent anti-doping commission in Russia are yet to be decided on, Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) President Alexander Zhukov said Friday.
Earlier in the day, a call to set up such commission was voiced by Russian President Vladimir Putin who proposed Vitaly Smirnov, a former vice-president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and IOC member since 1971, as its head.
"It is premature to talk about functions [of the commission]. We will discuss this issue at the [ROC] executive board meeting," Zhukov told journalists.
He did not specify whether Russian Sports Ministry officials would be included in the commission.
"Let's not rush," Zhukov told journalists.
On Monday, an independent World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) commission presented a report based on the results of its investigation into allegations that dozens of Russian athletes used performance enhancing drugs at the 2014 Winter Olympics, in which Russia was accused of running a state-wide doping program.
