WADA Athlete Committee said Monday it is deeply upset by the new findings of the McLaren Report on the unprecedented levels of doping and subversion in Russian sports and fully supports tough sanctions against the Russian athletes.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, an investigation commissioned by WADA said in a report that Russia had been running a state-sponsored doping scheme for years. In addition, the report concluded that the caps of bottles containing urine samples of the Russian athletes participating in the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014 were then removed and reused.

"We would like to highlight our belief that WADA must allow Professor McLaren and his team to continue their investigation, that Russia should be banned from the Rio Olympics, Paralympics, and other international events, and that International Federations must enact sanctions so as to protect clean sport."

"Now is the time for sporting organizations to stand up against doping and affirm in the most robust ways possible their commitment to protecting clean athletes and zero tolerance. This can only be achieved through the collective sanctioning (of athletes, officials and organizations) that has been recommended."
