MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has suspended the accreditation of the Kazakh Anti-Doping Laboratory in Almaty for a period of four months, citing "non-conformities" identified during the assessment of the lab, the agency said in a statement on Tuesday.
"The decision to suspend the laboratory is a direct result of the more stringent quality assessment procedures enacted by WADA to ensure laboratories maintain the highest standards," the statement said.
The suspension took effect on June 24 and prohibits the laboratory from carrying out any anti-doping activities and tests. During the period of suspension, athletes’ test samples will have to be transported to another laboratory that has been accredited by WADA.
The laboratory may appeal this decision to WADA’s Court of Arbitration for Sport within 21 days of receipt of notice.
