MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia defeated Germany 4-1 in a quarterfinals game on Thursday at the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Moscow.
Washington Capitals star forward Alexander Ovechkin scored his first goal in the tournament.
Russia will face Finland in a semifinals game on Saturday. The Northern European team defeated their Scandinavian neighbors from Denmark 5-1.
The same day, the other semifinals pair will feature the United States that beat the Czech Republic in the shootout, 2-1, and Team Canada that defeated Sweden 6-0 in a quarterfinals game earlier on Thursday.
The final game of the 2016 Ice Hockey World Championship is due to take place at Moscow's Ice Palace on Sunday.
