BUDAPEST (Sputnik) — FIFA President Gianni Infantino believes he will not be able to present a candidate for the post of FIFA general secretary at the upcoming organization's congress with the candidacy unlikely to be chosen before summer, Infantino said Tuesday.
"Process has already started right after my election. It is my responsibility as the FIFA president to propose to the Council the general secretary. I'm speaking to people, I'm getting information about the candidates and when I'm ready I will propose a candidate to the FIFA Council. Probably not in Mexico, like I said, I need a little bit more time, certainly until the summer we'll have to wait," Infantino told journalists.
The 66th FIFA Congress, which is the organization's supreme legislative body, will be held next week in Mexico. Earlier, Infantino said that the next FIFA general secretary should not be a European.
