    The International University Sports Federation (FISU) reported Saturday that Winter Universiade 2021 would take place in the central Swiss town of Lucerne and its vicinity

    MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Winter Universiade 2021 will be held in the central Swiss town of Lucerne and its vicinity, the International University Sports Federation (FISU) said Saturday.

    Earlier in the day, the FISU Executive Committee held a meeting to discuss a number of issues, including the host cities for the Universiades in future.

    "FISU attributes 2021 Winter Universiade to Lucerne & Central Switzerland," FISU said on its Facebook account.

    The Universiade, also called as the World Student Games or World University Games is an international sport event for university sportsmen. The most recent winter Universiade took place in Spain's Granada and Slovakia's Strbske Pleso and Osrblie in 2015. In 2017, Kazakh capital of Astana will be the host city of the event, while Russia's Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk will held the Universiade in 2019.
