Swiss Police Arrest 2 FIFA Officials for Taking Millions in Bribes
MOSCOW (Sputnik) Swiss police arrested a Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) and a South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) official in a pre-dawn raid in Zurich on Thursday. The two were identified as CONCACAF President Alfredo Hawit and CONMEBOL President Juan Angel Napout.

"What is our involvement? We are by no means [involved]," Mutko said, expressing ambivalence at previous reports of 12 arrests.

The US Justice Department requested the Swiss Federal Office of Justice (FOJ) arrest 12 football officials in connection with racketeering, money laundering and fraud. The Justice Department was said to be unsealing new corruption charges by late Thursday.

The FOJ made the arrests on the second and final day of a FIFA Executive Committee meeting focusing on reforms ahead of a February 2016 Extraordinary FIFA Congress.

Several high-ranking FIFA officials were arrested in May on a US federal corruption warrant.
