Preparations for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup are underway in one of the football tournament’s host cities.

MOSCOW, December 24 (Sputnik) — Preparations for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup are well underway in Kaliningrad, one of the football tournament’s host cities in Russia, R-Sport reports.

The construction of the Baltic Arena stadium, with a capacity of about 35,000 spectators, is being built on the Oktyabrsky Island district. The construction is scheduled to finish by May 2017, with a projected cost of no more than $277 million.

R-Sport also adds that three of the city’s stadiums – Pioneer, Locomotiv and Baltika – will be used as training fields during the tournament, and that local camping sites will be able to accommodate up to 29,000 visitors.

The Kaliningrad international airport, Khrabrovo, is also undergoing renovations prior to the 2018 event.
