MOSCOW, November 29 (Sputnik) — New president of the Russia-based Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), Dmitry Chernyshenko, represents the new generation of Russian managers, who are well-qualified and know how to work hard, International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) head Rene Fasel told RIA Novosti.
“I know Dmitry since the time of an application submission to host the Winter Olympics in Sochi, about 10 years in total. I am very happy that he got such position. He is a great executive, he works really hard, and he achieved this through hard work. It feels very comfortable with him, also he is young enough and represents the young generation of Russian managers who love their jobs, speak perfect English and represent Russia from the different perspective,” Fasel said.
On November 28, the KHL board of directors decided to terminate ex-president of the league, Alexander Medvedev’s contract. The board members unanimously voted for accepting Dmitry Chernyshenko as the new KHL President. Previously, Chernyshenko was the President of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Organizing Committee.
The Kontinental Hockey League is an international professional hockey league founded in 2008. It consists of 28 member clubs from 7 countries. It is widely considered to be the premier ice hockey league in Eurasia.
