SOCHI, October 8 (RIA Novosti) – Russia is one of the world's best hosts of major sporting events, Russian Olympic Committee President Alexander Zhukov said Wednesday, ahead of the Russian Grand Prix in the city of Sochi.
"Sport is apolitical. Formula One and many other events have and will be taking place in Russia - the World Aquatics Championships, the World Cup... In the world of sports, everyone understands that Russia is one of the best [countries] in the world at organizing sport events and sport festivals, which was demonstrated by the 2014 Olympic Games," Zhukov told reporters.
Russia's first ever Grand Prix will be held at the Sochi racetrack on October 10-12.
The circuit is 5.852 km (3,636 miles) long and comprises 19 bends. The maximum speed which can be achieved on the track is 320 km/h (199 mph).
