MOSCOW, March 18 (R-Sport) - The rematch between WBA cruiserweight regular champion Denis Lebedev and Guillermo Jones will take place on April 25, a spokeswoman for the promoter told R-Sport on Tuesday.
The contract for the highly-anticipated bout was finally signed in January after difficult negotiations since October, when the Panamanian was disqualified and the title given to the Russian boxer.
Olga Novitskaya, who represents a company owned by Russian businessman Andrei Ryabinsky, said the fight would likely take place at the Krylatskoe Sports Complex in eastern Moscow, confirming the date as April 25. It was previously thought the fight would go ahead on April 19.
Jones is set to take home $800,000 from the fight, while Lebedev's share is unknown.
Last May, Jones stopped Lebedev on a technical knockout in 11th round.
Then, the WBA handed the title back to Lebedev when Jones failed a drug test. Jones was made WBA champion-in-recess on the condition he must fight Lebedev again.
Lebedev has 25 wins and two defeats from 27 fights, including the loss to Jones in May, while the Panamanian is 39-3 with two draws.
