MOSCOW, November 10 (R-Sport) - A late goal by Amkar Perm captain Dmitry Belorukov brought his team a 1-0 victory over Anzhi Makhachkala on Sunday, to move the unfancied side up to sixth in the Russian Premier League.
Belorukov pounced on a fumble by Anzhi goalkeeper Yevgeny Pomazan from Martin Jakubko's header on 83 minutes to claim all three points at the end of a cagey game with few chances for either side.
This win moved Amkar one place up from seveth, level on 27 points with CSKA Moscow, who host Terek Grozny later in the day.
"This win was very difficult," Amkar coach Stanislav Cherchesov said in televised comments. "We wanted to play very aggressively from the first minutes and we made them play from defense, but we lacked the final pass. I'm grateful to the guys that they fought till the end and took a deserved win."
Without injured forward Lacina Traore, Anzhi failed to score for the fourth league game in a row and remain rock-bottom without a single victory in 16 matches.
Anzhi were playing on the back of their Thursday's 1-0 win at Norwegian side Tromso in the Europa League.
"We failed to play well in the offense as it often happens this season," Anzhi coach Gadzhi Gadzhiev said. "Our physical condition was worse because of the mid-week game and the flight from the Polar region also told on our performance."
The teams' lack of creativity up front was painfully evident throughout, with the only chance of the first half coming from Amkar defender Thomas Phibel. His header from a corner was saved by Pomazan.
Slovakia forward Jakubko had a strong penalty claim turned down on 66 minutes when Anzhi defender Kamil Agalarov brought him down in the box. Pomazan then did well to turn away a shot by Amkar's Andrei Semenov.
Anzhi players had taken to the pitch in t-shirts supporting Dagestani boxer Magomed Abdusalamov, who remains in critical condition in a New York City hospital after suffering a stroke.
Earlier Sunday, Yura Movsisyan scored a hat-trick to help Spartak Moscow to an entertaining 4-2 win over leaders Zenit St. Petersburg.
In the last two games of the round on Sunday, FC Krasnodar travel to Rubin Kazan and FC Kuban host FC Volga.
