MOSCOW, August 6 (R-Sport) – French defender Chris Mavinga has followed in the footsteps of his former Rennes teammate Yann M'Vila and signed for Russian side Rubin Kazan, a source close to the talks told R-Sport Tuesday.

The 22-year-old left-back has inked a four-year deal with the Tatarstan side and replaces Argentinian star Cristian Ansaldi, who joined Zenit St. Petersburg last week.

Mavinga, 22, signed for Liverpool in July 2009 but never made a single appearance at Anfield and was sold to the Ligue 1 outfit two years later, going on to make 46 appearances.

Both Mavinga and M'Vila are suspended from the French national team due to an unauthorized night out during Euro 2013 qualifying matches with the under-21s in October 2012. Mavinga’s ban expires at the end of the year, while M’Vila is disqualified until March.
