Sunday’s DTM touring car race at Moscow Raceway will be preceded by a minute’s silence for superbike rider Andrea Antonelli, who died in a crash at the track last month, organizers said Saturday.

VOLOKOLAMSK, Russia, August 3 (R-Sport) – Sunday’s DTM touring car race at Moscow Raceway will be preceded by a minute’s silence for superbike rider Andrea Antonelli, who died in a crash at the track last month, organizers said Saturday.

Antonelli was killed when he fell during a Supersport championship race held in extremely wet conditions and was struck by another competitor, sustaining fatal head injuries.

“There will be a minute’s silence, all the [DTM] teams have agreed to it,” track spokesperson Evgenia Bazarova told R-Sport.

Barazova wouldn't say whether a plaque would be put up in his honor, as is tradition in motorsport, commenting only that it “takes time.”

This weekend’s round of DTM is the first race weekend at the track since Antonelli was killed.

The Italian, 25, is the only competitor to have died at Moscow Raceway, which opened last year and has hosted international bike and car racing in various categories including the Renault World Series and FIA GT1 Championship.

Antonelli’s funeral was held July 26 near the Italian city of Perugia.
