Greek forward Nikolaos Karelis has left Russian Premier League football team Amkar Perm to join Panathinaikos, ending a miserable year in Russia.

MOSCOW, July 31 (R-Sport) – Greek forward Nikolaos Karelis has left Russian Premier League football team Amkar Perm to join Panathinaikos, ending a miserable year in Russia.

Karelis, 21, made just 10 appearances over the season for Amkar, mostly off the bench, failing to find the net in any competitive game.

Amkar announced Wednesday that it had released the forward from his three-year contract to allow him to return to his native country and join 20-time Greek champions Panathinaikos.

There was no word on any fee.

Karelis is a member of Greece's under-21 side.
