ROSTOV-ON-DON, Russia, July 13 (R-Sport) - Football manager Fabio Capello insisted Saturday he wants to stay as Russia manager following months of speculation he would leave.
Capello, 67, joined Russia a year ago and was heavily linked to the Paris Saint-Germain job eventually taken by Laurent Blanc last month.
Capello’s son Pierfilippo, who acts as his agent, visited Paris and told Italian media he had met with PSG executives, but denied holding contract talks.
“You know, when you reach a certain level in this profession, a lot of teams, national sides, clubs show interest in you,” Fabio Capello said while attending the Russian Super Cup on Saturday.
“I can assure you that I am absolutely happy in Russia. I like to work in Russia. I want to keep working here.”
Capello suffered his first defeat as Russia manager in the team’s last game, a 1-0 defeat away to Portugal in World Cup qualifying last month.
Russia’s next game is away to Northern Ireland on August 14, a World Cup qualifier postponed from March because of snow in Belfast.
