World No. 2 Novak Djokovic outplayed Argentina’s Carlos Berlocq to reach the quarterfinal of the China Open on Wednesday.
The Serbian top seed needed 25 minutes to take the first set in a 6-1, 6-3 defeat of the world No. 50.
Djokovic faces Juergen Melzer of Austria, who dispatched sixth seed Alexander Dolgopolov of Ukraine 7-6(9), 2-6, 6-1 earlier on Wednesday, in the quarterfinal.
In the women’s draw, reigning champion Agnieszka Radwanska battled past qualifier Lourdes Dominguez Lino to set up a quarterfinal with either Li Na or Peng Shuai.
The Polish third seed hit four double faults and lost her serve six times in a 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory over the Spaniard.
Elsewhere, ninth seed Marion Bartoli of France beat Germany’s Julia Goerges 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) to set up a last-eight meeting with Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain.
