Russia’s Alexander Povetkin is in good shape for his bout with U.S. heavyweight Hasim Rahman but must be careful of surprises, Povetkin’s brother Vladimir told R-Sport on Saturday.

WBA regular heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin, 33, is to defend his title against the 39-year-old Rahman in Hamburg later on Saturday.

"Alexander is now in good shape and the main thing in the bout will be absence of any unforeseen situations,” said Vladimir Povetkin, himself a former professional boxer.

“If they don't happen, he will be able to deal with Rahman and show some good boxing.”

“Sasha has already passed the hardest part – workouts with [trainer] Kostya Tszyu with heavy weights and a lot of explosive training.”

Vladimir Povetkin, who was unbeaten in six bouts before injury ended his pro career, also said Rahman is likely to be cautious, seeking to catch Alexander Povetkin off-guard and hit him with a knockout blow.

“He is a very experienced boxer with a powerful punch and he will not go at Alexander like some young rival," he said.

“He will hide his ambition and wait for the moment when Alexander makes any mistake, then try to knock him out.”

Povetkin has won all of his 24 fights, with 16 by way of knockout, while Rahman has a 50-7 record win two draws and one no-contest.
