Right wing Nikolay Zherdev scored twice to help Atlant Moscow Region stun Spartak Moscow 5-2, while two third-period goals allowed Lokomotiv Yaroslavl overcome Donbass Donetsk 2-1 in the KHL.

Zherdev also grabbed an assist on the goal that put Atlant ahead, scored by Igor Ignatushkin, leading to a result that saw the team leapfrog Pavel Datsyuk's CSKA Moscow into second place in the Western Conference.

Spartak is tenth with ten points after a fourth-straight defeat loss, while Atlant celebrated its first ever victory over Spartak on the road in regulation.

In Yaroslavl, Lokomotiv won courtesy of an Alexander Chernikov strike in the 51st minute to give the reborn club its fourth win of the season and inflict a fifth consecutive defeat on Ukrainian team Donbass in its debut KHL season.

Czech team Lev Prague leads the West with 20 points, two points clear of Atlant, while Lokomotiv is fourth with 16 points, one place below CSKA Moscow but with a game in hand.

In Tuesday's other game, Torpedo Nizhniy Novgorod overpowered Dynamo Riga 3-2. The Latvian team equalized the score twice during the game, but right back Ruslan Zainullin made all the difference with his goal 11 minutes and nine seconds from time.

Torpedo is just inside the playoff zone on eight with 12 points, while Dynamo Riga is 11th with nine points.
