Dynamo Moscow’s disastrous start to the season, losing all four of their league games, is the fault of clueless club officials interfering in sporting matters, former Russia coach Valery Gazzaev said Saturday.

Ex-Chelsea player Dan Petrescu was named as Dynamo coach Friday after Sergei Silkin resigned in the aftermath of a 4-0 derby defeat to Spartak Moscow.

Dynamo’s only win so far came against Scotland’s Dundee United in the Europa League, a competition in which the Russians face an uphill struggle against VfB Stuttgart in the first leg of the playoffs Wednesday.

“The prevailing crisis situation at Dynamo Moscow is directly linked to the fact that sporting decisions are being taken by people with a weak understanding of the working principles and forming of a football team,” Gazzaev said.

He appeared to criticize the role played by VTB Bank, whose head Vasily Titov is the club vice-president.

“When sponsors financing the team start to think of themselves as great specialists in the realm of tactics, selection and the training process, the results as a rule are pitiful.”

Gazzaev moved into management after his coaching career and is now president of Russian Premier League side Alania Vladikavkaz, the team he took to the Russian title in 1995.
