China's Xu Lijia won gold in the women's Laser Radial at the Olympics on Monday.
Xu sealed her victory with a win in the medal race as Marit Bouwmeester from Netherlands finished second and won silver.
"I am proud of the gold, especially as I'm in Britain, because Britain and European countries are good and I want to take this experience back to China so more can experience the beauty of this sailing," Xu said.
Bouwmeester cursed the conditions for the medal race.
"All my worst enemies were out there today - the flat water and strong winds," she said.
"The gold is always the main goal. If you ask me tomorrow I will be fine; today I'm a bit disappointed."
The bronze went to Belgium's Evi Van Acker, who took third place after taking advantage of Ireland's Annalise Murphy drop to fifth in the medal race.
