China defeated South Korea for Olympic gold in the women's epee team fencing competition on Saturday
The Koreans took an early lead but the Chinese switched gear, with Xu Anqi, Sun Yujie and Li Na beating their opponents comfortably for a 39-25 victory.
Xu said patience was the key to victory.
"We have played each other a few times already so we are familar with each other. It felt very good," she said.
"We had more patience. I'm very satisfied."
Korea's Shin A Lam goes home with a medal, albeit silver, after feeling aggrieved to have missed out on a final place in the individual event.
Germany’s Britta Heidemann was inadvertantly allowed extra time to score the three points she needed to win as a result of a computer error.
"In the individual event I didn't get the medal, whatever the reason was," Shin said.
"But tonight I managed to get this silver medal which is very special also because it comes from the strength of all our team."
The United States snatched a dramatic fencing bronze on Saturday, beating Russia by a single hit in overtime in the women's team epee.
Courtney Hurley scored the decisive point against Russia's Anna Sivkova to spark wild celebrations among the U.S. team over the 31-30 victory.
It was the Americans' first medal in fencing.
