Amputee runner Oscar Pistorius believes he can run in an Olympic final in London, he said Saturday.

Dubbed the “Blade Runner” because of the shape of his prosthetic limbs, Pistorius is aiming to emulate the performance that saw him take a silver medal in the 4x400 meter relay at last year’s world championships in Daegu, South Korea.

Pistorius ran in the semifinal, but was left out of the South African squad for the final on that occasion, although he still received a medal.

"I definitely hope to be in the final this time," Pistorius said. “I really don't think it will be like Daegu.”

South Africa may be outsiders, may they should not be ignored, he said.

"We have a great chance in the relay. South Africans always run with a lot of heart in relays,” he said.

"No one expected us to do anything last year but we came second."

Pistorius is entered for the individual 400m, and said he hopes to reach the semifinal.

He did not race at the last Olympics in Beijing, but took part in the Paralympics, where he won three gold medals.
