The general director of Russian Premier League side Anzhi Makhachkala rejected reports in the Italian media on Thursday linking star striker Samuel Eto’o with a loan move back to his former club, Inter Milan.

Italian daily La Gazzetto dello Sport reported the 30-year-old Cameroonian could rejoin his old team during the Russian season’s three-month winter break. Inter have suffered a dire start to the Serie A season and lie in 17th place, with just one win in five games.

Commenting on the report on an internet forum for Anzhi fans, the club’s director German Chistyakov wrote “even in a nightmare it’s impossible to imagine such a scenario.”

During the winter break, which starts November 6, Eto’o “will prepare for the tough forthcoming season with all his professionalism in the Anzhi squad,” Chistyakov wrote.

Eto’o joined the Dagestan-based club in August, the highest-profile player ever to grace the Russian Premier League and part of Anzhi owner Suleiman Kerimov’s plan to turn the former minnows into European giants.
