This year for Singles’ Day, one Chinese company is offering a lifetime supply of liquor to its customers for just $1,600 to wash away their sorrows.

The shopping extravaganza originally designed to cheer up lovesick singles is the world’s biggest retail event, which was launched by online retailer Alibaba, with the aim of creating a shopping festival in the period between National Day at the start of October and New Year’s Eve.

Jiang Xiaobai, a Chongqing-based online retailer, is reported to be offering a lifetime supply of Chinese vodka for a one-off payment of 11,111 yuan ($1,674), but limiting the offer to just 33 tickets on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Buyers will be supplied with 12 bottles of baijiu each month, and if within five years the customer dies, one of their relatives may inherit the contract.

The online sale will begin at midnight on November 11 the date which was first branded as Singles’ Day in 2009.

Vast arrays of discounts and the boom in online shopping have given the event a much broader appeal and is now seen mainly as a shopping event across China.

“Last year the value of transactions topped $17.8 billion – surpassing its nearest US equivalent Black Friday, which happens later this month on the day after Thanksgiving,” South China Morning Post reported.
