A South African court on Friday rejected an appeal of state prosecutors aiming to increase the sentence of Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On July 6, 2016, Pistorius was sentenced to six years in jail, following a murder of his girlfriend and model Reeva Steenkamp in 2013. Country's prosecutors office argued the sentence and called for longer term of imprisonment for the athlete.

According to The BBC broadcaster, Judge Thokozile Masipa dismissed the appeal.

The media outlet added that South African prosecutors had three more weeks to file a petition to country's Supreme Court of Appeal.

On February 14, 2013 Pistorius was accused of murdering Steenkamp after her body was found in his toilet room. Media reported that Steenkamp was planning a surprise for Pistorius on Valentine's Day, but he mistook her for a robber.
