WARSAW (Sputnik) — The train, believed to be laden with precious metals, including gold, as well as jewels and valuable art, is said to have disappeared in the final stages of World War II, after it was hidden from Soviet bombers inside a tunnel which later collapsed. Stories of the train have abounded since then but no evidence of its existence has been produced.
A year on, XYZ, a privately funded explorer group, assembled a treasure hunter team numbering 35 people to embark on a quest to verify the claims.
The area has already been surveyed by experts. Earlier on Tuesday, the search area was enclosed and shut off to the public as heavy equipment arrived.
Spokesman for the search team Andrzej Gaik reportedly said that the train should be found within three to four days if it there, adding that the discovery of a hidden tunnel would be a success in itself.
