NEW DELHI (Sputnik) — Movie star Rajinikanth, who enjoys a cult following in southern India, has a new movie out, turning an ordinary date into a festival among ecstatic film buffs in India's southern states. Rajinikath's much awaited new movie 'Kabali' will be released on July 22, triggering a frenzy among fans. Movie tickets are sold out long in advance. Corporate offices have been flooded by applications to take the day off, forcing many of them to declare a 'special holiday' on July 22. Some companies have also promised free tickets to their employees and their family members as a goodwill gesture.

Rajinikanth has an unprecedented fan following; his admirers see him as a demigod. 'Kabali' starring Rajinikanth as the protagonist has reportedly already made a 100% profit due to distribution rights and advance bookings for the first day. This is said to be the biggest-ever advance booking in the history of Tamil cinema.
